Efforts on behalf of an ancestor’s memory are imbued with highs and lows. Legends are created and taken to task. Simply stated, I believe that the reputation of a person who is no longer alive and whose life story was never widely known and therefore can not be fodder for parody, should be — by rights — legally protectable. Especially if a publisher/writer has used his real name but not stayed true to his character.
